GIRL TALK // The Illustrator

Kate is the lovely lady behind Scathingly Brilliant. She's no stranger here, as she was deemed our very first Blogger of the Week and she is also a Pie N' the Sky sponsor this month! She has the prettiest pink hair, the most darling wardrobe ever, and she is oh so talented!! I'm very excited to have this week's Girl Talk with her!

What is your job title // Illustrator

What do you love about yourself // I'm not too confident so this is a toughie for me! I think the one thing that I'm confident about is my intellect. I love that I learn pretty easily, and I love that I enjoy learning. I also think I'm a pretty good daughter and sister, and I hope that I'm a good friend :)

Who is your role model // I have so many, but I'd say my mom and my Aunt Annie definitely top the list. My mom is the sweetest, kindest, most generous, selfless person I've ever met. My Aunt Annie is turning 100 in a few weeks, and ever since I was little I've loved hearing her tell stories about her life. She married in her 30's, but quickly got divorced after her husband didn't let her go out dancing often enough. She traveled the world and has lived a long, happy, independent life.

What inspires you // Classic movies and my cats. I think almost everything I do can somehow be traced back to classic movies or my cats!

What are five words that describe you // empathetic, smart, tired, hungry, curious

What is your biggest insecurity // As much as I wish I was comfortable in my own skin, I'm terribly insecure about my body. I actually wear capri jeans over my bathing suit when I swim in my own backyard swimming pool! It's ridiculous.

If you could be anyone for a day, who would it be // I would love to be Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler's character from Parks and Recreation) I know she's fictional, but it's not like if I named a real person I'd magically get the chance to trade places, haha! She's pretty much the most awesome lady I can think of. And if the day I got to be her was a day that she was dating Ben Wyatt (aka Adam Scott) that would be even better.

Aren't her illustrations so sweet!?? I'm a cat lady myself, so I'm quite the fan ^_^ If you'd like to check out the rest of her prints and see the rest of her shop, you can hop on over here. And if you just want to get to know her better, you can go here. Thanks so much for listening in on the week's Girl Talk!

Kind of like the weirdest feeling ever...

Welp, it happened. I'm a graduate! I have to admit it's the strangest feeling; like I'm happy, but sad, excited, but nervous, all of the feelings I think everyone experiences at this point in their lives. I'm anxious for nothing, but find myself extremely overwhelmed with the peace and promise that God has given me. AH! I can't believe it! haha! Sorry, it hits me every now and then ^_^

I was so happy to spend time with my family and friends. We were able to go out dinner at Pappadeaux where I of course had the crab. I love me some crab. I got wonderful gifts, including the prettiest wool cape from the Mr and a Kate Spade purse from my sister!

There weren't too many photos taken and due to lighting, most came out a little blurry. blarg.

Now that that's all over, I'll be putting a little extra time into Pie N' the Sky and more specifically, the shop! This week I'm hoping to have an update!! It's much needed and I have so many pretty new goodies to share! I know you'll love them and it's just in time for Christmas! Hooray! More details to come. Have a wonderful week!

On Graduating.

Sometimes I'm amazed that this is my life.

It's nothing terribly grand; I'm not wealthy or famous, not living on a private island or known for great works, but I am happy and that alone is enough.

I love my life because it is rich with blessings. Blessings that outnumber my faults, my worries, my weaknesses and my problems. They are enough.

I have learned that I too am enough. I have no list of expectations to live up to except the ones I place on myself; which I get quite bothered when I do that. I should learn to be kind to myself.

It's when I stop to appreciate who I am today and how very much I've grown from who I was yesterday, that I realize how truly incredible my God is. I would be nothing without Him.

So I say this all to say that I love my life. I don't deserve my life. I am grateful for the one who has brought me to this day. As I sit here and realize that a chapter of my life is closing and a new exciting adventure is beginning, no matter how mundane it may be to some, to me it is the chance of a lifetime and I'm excited to live it out.

Here's to today.

A Fall Playlist

I love love cold weather, but only when I get to stay inside under blankets, crafting or reading a book, with some sweet tunes! SO I thought I'd share with you a few of my favorite songs at the current moment. Here's my playlist as of this week. It usually changes bi-weekly, so I'll try and keep this up and share my music with you. I know I've tried and failed at this several times, but I'll try and get better. promise.

Gungor and The City Harmonic are kind of on constant repeat at this point. Both bands are fairly new to me and I must say they just do something to me and move me to creativity. I love that feeling! Hope they do the same for you.

In other news, I am now officially done with school as of 12pm today!! I graduate in 2 days and I'm packing like a mad woman. The family gets here on Friday, so if the blog seems a bit silent for a few days, you'll have to forgive me. Yes, you'll have to. ^_^

Flower Crown DIY

Sometimes a girl just needs to adorn her head with a crown of flowers! It's such a rainy dreary day that I wanted to remind myself of the sunshine of Spring so I made this pretty floral crown. It's super easy and fun to make. I made this little pretty while watching a movie.

Supplies needed: wire (yarn wire), scissors, fake flowers, wire cutters (optional)
1. Get all of your supplies. 2. Wrap your wire around your head to get the right size. wrap it around about three times to make it nice and sturdy. I used yarn wire that I got for a dollar at Michael's. 3. Cut off your flowers from the stem. Leave about an inch of stem to use to wrap around your crown. 4. Stick the stems between the wires of your crown. It's fun bunching them all up together. 5. Use smaller pieces of wire to secure your flowers by wrapping your wire around the stems to the crown. 6. You're done. Hooray!

That time I almost pet a penguin...

I loooooathe homework. Wah!

Okay, now that I've gotten that out of the way, I wanted to drop in and say hello. I've been finishing up all of my final projects today... needless to say I'm going a little stir crazy. SO I made myself take a break before I lose my mind, to share a few photos from last night. I came SO close to fulfilling  lifelong dream of mine of touching a penguin. I know what you're thinking, "that's a rather strange dream Melisa." I know! But I was a rather strange little girl... I grew up with a fascination of penguins and every week in elementary I went to the library and checked out books solely on penguins. Obviously there aren't too many in that genre, so I read and reread every single one (such a nerd)! So when I was in 4th grade I made a list of dreams. They were as follows...

1. Become a professional basketball player
2. Pet a penguin
3. Swim with a dolphin
And probably something about staying bff's with my friends ^_^

So there you have it. I have since swam with a dolphin and also added the goal of feeding a giraffe. I like animals people, you needn't judge me. Without further ado, here are some photos of me verryy close to touching a penguin. If only those trainers hadn't been such crabs.

Please excuse the quality of the photos, it was dark and they're from my phone. womp. Aren't they just the cutest though?? Did you like my story? Do you think I'm a crazy penguin lady now? I kind of just got real honest with you,,, accept me.

Hope you have a fun filled night. Back to typing typing typing.
