L E W E D :: invitations

Our biggest hurdle has been our invitations. It was hard to decide what we wanted them to look like. With Elisha being a graphic designer, we were sure that he would be the one to design them. We have a fairly unique idea, so executing it has been a bit more time consuming than expected. They will get out though! They will.

In the meantime, I've been enjoying all of the lovely invite inspiration I've seen on the internet. These are a few awesome items and shops I came across, in case you're planning your wedding or event! Native Bear and The First Snow are two shops that every bride should look at!

L E W E D :: honeymoon

Saint Lucia here we come! We booked the honeymoon and is it weird that of all the things we've done, including signing the papers for our home together, this is the most "oh my gosh, we're getting married" moment we've both had? ha! We can't wait to get on that beach. 72 days to go!

Have any of y'all been there before? Any places we need to visit while we're there?? I'm already so excited to go diving!

L E W E D :: Bridesmaids Gifts

I've always been a fine details person, so planning the bridesmaids gifts has been so much fun for me. It's not necessarily one of the big things to get checked off for the wedding, but it is definitely important. First of all, I love giving gifts! Secondly, I know how much hard work these sweet ladies will put into showers, and helping me, listening to me, and ultimately being with me on my special day. I don't know what I'd do without them, so I want to be sure that my gift to them is heartfelt and lets them know just how much they mean to me. Here are a few wonderful things I've come across while trying to choose what to get them. Some of these may be making their way into my girls' gift bags! What's your favorite??

L E W E D :: double digits

Alright, we're not only in double digits, but currently 83 days away! People aren't lying when they say that after 100, the days just fly. They are flying indeed. We're getting a lot done and finally getting to make some decoration purchases, which has been so much fun! We have a cake now, a videographer, and bridesmaid dresses! We still need to build some pieces for the reception and get those invitations out! Like asap. Time got away from us on the save the dates, so we're just sending out our invites a little early. Most of our close friends and family already know, so we're not too concerned. Aside from a few little things, we haven't really had any huge stressful moments. It's still so wonderful being able to plan such a life changing event with the man I'm going to marry. He's had an opinion on most everything and I love seeing how we compromise and support one another's creative ideas. It's kind of beautiful, the give and take.

We've found our new home and signed the papers last week! We purchased our first piece of furniture - a beautiful console from Pottery Barn, and now we're having fun piecing together everything else. I can't wait to build a home with Elisha. And the sooner we have a home, the sooner we get a dog. I'm just saying. But on the reals, I have moved at least 20 times in my life and it will be good to be settled for awhile. It's less than two months until I move in!

Lately, I've been trying to soak up every moment and write down how I'm feeling. These last two weeks have been fun, inspiring, overwhelming, unbelievable and everything I hoped. I think as of late, I'm more aware that I am a bride to be, I'm planning a wedding and I'm getting married real soon. Since turning 25 I've felt a new level of maturity sweep over. I feel like these last few weeks have only solidified that feeling. Being an adult always scared me - I was the kid who never wanted to grow up. While being an adult has it's own set of responsibilities and sure, it can be a little stressful at times, it also carries such a beautiful new way of life. I like it.

I will say this though, I kind of still can't believe this is really happening. Like, I'm getting married. It's real.

L E W E D :: what to wear to a shower

Yesterday I was doing some planning with my bridesmaids and I remembered that I'm going to get to have showers! Being involved in ministry, you know a lot of people, and a lot of people get married and have babies soooo you go to quite a few showers. In all of my planning I kind of forgot that I get to have my very own! I'm so excited to share this exciting time with the people I love! Since I have showers, rehearsal dinner, and bachelorette party on the mind, I'm obviously also thinking about what I'm going to wear! Here are a few of my favorite places to shop online and a few dresses I'm currently smitten with.

BHLDN :: Who does't love this beautiful line?? I had the chance to go in and try on wedding dresses there and I must admit that it was the best experience. They give excellent customer service - we were even given macaroons! I noticed this dress when I went into the store and have had my eye on it ever since. The Charline Maxi is a bit more fancy, but it sure is beautiful!

Shabby Apple :: I love this shop because they have such a wide variety of dresses to choose from. I so appreciate their styling and vintage clothing. Each piece has a fun vintage flair; like this beautiful dress or this mega adorable swimsuit!

Chicwish :: It's no secret that I'm smitten with this shop! They have the sweetest dresses and accessories! This dress is one of my faves, but I'm completely obsessed with this one too.

Modcloth :: I love the variety of this shop, and the fact that you can always find something to suit your style. Seriously. They have like hundreds of looks and each is just as adorable as the next. I'm currently loving this dress and this dress.

Ruche :: This is always a fun place to shop, and since they've added a bridal section, I can't stop visiting! I love love this dress; it's perfection!

I read that it's customary to wear white to all of these, but I think any soft or pale color will do just fine. Or standout with a bold red! Why not? You're the bride! Do you have any favorite places to shop online? I'd love to hear about them in the comments!

ENGAGED :: Month three??

I have somehow managed to go through two months of being engaged and am just now sitting down to write about my experience thus far. I fully intended on keeping an online journal of sorts to be able to catalog this season of my life - something I could go back to years down the road. And already, two months have passed me! But seriously, they just flew by!

So here we are in month three, we've accomplished quite a bit, but still have much to do. My to do lists seem to be ever-growing, but I have yet to reach a freak out moment. Pray it doesn't come! Every bride has told me that they had at least one; some even managed to make it all the way to the wedding day before their break. I'm just hoping mine is quick and painless for all involved. I feel so lucky to have such incredible friends and family to share this moment with. They've each been so helpful and supportive on every decision we've made thus far.

It's so fun planning something so big, like a wedding, with your best friend. This big project has really helped us see, even more, how well we work together. Each of us picking up where the other lacks and working through issues as a team. It's his birthday today in fact. It's crazy to think I've known him for 9 years of his life and through any and every change, we've moved in the same direction. I just love it! I'm realizing more each day, how lucky we are to have found eachother and how truly excited I am to continue spending my life with him.

Our big to do's as of now, are cake, flowers, invites and honeymoon. Once we check those off then we can start having more fun with decorations and such. Which, btw, I have so many fun ideas already and it's killing me not being able to share!

Any of you remember this part of your engagement?? Any advice for me? I love any helpful tips!

L E W E D :: will you be my bridesmaid?

Here's another little wedding peek! I've had so much fun adding little diy elements to this whole process. I can't wait to show you the bigger decorations, but that'll have to wait til after the wedding - I don't want to spoil the surprise! These little bottles were a fun way to ask my bridesmaids to be in my wedding! I designed the labels and added some confetti for extra fun!

I know I've been kind of absent lately, but after our week in NY, we took our students to Summer Camp for the last week (and I celebrated my birthday!). We're finally home and I'm starting to get back into my routine. Excited to share photos of our adventuring.

L E W E D :: update

As of right now, we have set a date, booked our venue, booked our photographer + videographer, i've purchased my dress, my maid of honor has her dress and we have taken our engagement photos! So fun! There's still much to get done, but we're going to have to take a small break from planning. The Mr and I just came back from taking some of our students to New York and it was a blast! We're back for the weekend and then off again for a week of Summer Camp. It'll be go go go, but it's so worth it! I think it'll be nice to come back to all the wedding stuff with a fresh perspective. I can't wait to keep sharing wedding inspiration and fun diy's with you along the way!

I made the flower crown featured above, for our engagement photos. It was super simple and I can share a DIY if you'd like. I'm so excited to share more from our engagement shoot, taken by Kalli Carr

L E W E D :: the proposal

I'm so excited to finally share our full proposal story! To begin, here's a little back story... Elisha and I met when we were in high school. We "talked"for about a year, before we officially started dating. Our first Summer together was actually spent apart, while I was visiting my Dad in Houston and he was running an internship program back home. We emailed each other at least once a day & learned so much about each other! I actually printed off all of our emails and gave them to him as a gift for an anniversary. There were about 150 pages!

After that Summer I came home and we started living a dream. Over the course of two years we had incredible dates, laughed so much, shared memories, went on trips, did ministry together, learned from each other, had rough times, grew up, and were better because of one another. Looking back on where we started and who we were then, it amazes me that we've been able to grow and continue in the same direction. Eight years later and it still seems like just yesterday.

Elisha was my first and only boyfriend. There were guys who I talked to, guys who wanted to date me, but for some reason I had the mentality that if I wasn't going to marry them, then I wasn't going to waste my time. Kind of a strange way to think when you're only 16, but I knew that I was going to date to marry. When Elisha and I started to get to know each other, I knew he was going to be my guy, the one I'd spend my life with. Again, strange thinking for a teenager - or I guess more common these days.

From the beginning, we both knew we wanted marriage and that we couldn't wait to spend our lives together. After I finished my two year program, we thought it might be time. After some conversation though, I realized that I really wanted to go to college and move to Texas. That Summer he was offered a great job opportunity in Ft Worth, and I planned on attending college in the fall. Everything was lining up.

We decided that marriage while I was in school just didn't make sense. The idea of starting off fresh, with no debt, and with two jobs just seemed like the best option. So we waited. During that time Elisha was offered a Youth Pastor position in Wisconsin. He was there for over a year and needless to say, it was a trying time for both of us. Being in a long distance relationship is tough enough, but when you both have so much on your plate, it makes it even harder! I went to visit twice and spent a Summer there. This time grew us as individuals and made us stronger as a couple. Our time together was treasured and we learned to not take the other for granted; true appreciation for what we had together grew.

Elisha returned to Texas and began his new position as a Youth Pastor here in Mansfield. I graduated college and began working and helping out at our church. Our lives finally began to feel like we were on track and marriage could actually be real.

A year passed after having graduated and I was getting a bit antsy. I went through many seasons during our time together, but one thing I truly learned was patience. I knew that I knew, that we were going to be together forever & that our marriage was worth waiting for. So I waited.

On May 31st, 2005 Elisha asked me to be his girlfriend. On May 31st, 2013, Elisha asked me to be his wife.

Elisha took me to eat dinner to celebrate our anniversary. He was acting a little funny, but I did't think much of it. We were on our way home and he seemed a little nervous - at this point I was hopeful, but thought, there's no way! We stopped to pick up some ice cream and he drove us into the park parking lot. I thought he was going to recreate our first date. We walked down into a a wooded area and once we turned the corner, I saw my family and some of our closest friends lined up with candles. I instantly started crying. I seriously could not even control the tears. He held my hand and walked me to the clearing. Our friend Branden was playing "I have and I always will", and Elisha was singing the words to me. When the song finished he whispered that he loved me, and I said I loved him too. This was the first time we'd ever said that to each other and we never meant it more. He got down on one knee and asked me what I had dreamt of hearing hundreds of times. I said yes (of course) and there was much rejoicing!

Every part of this night was perfection. From the sheet hung to show our photos through the years to the giant wall created with Christmas lights, to the people I love most being there... perfect.

It was like an instant engagement party as we made our way back up to the park pavilion to eat cupcakes and toast with cider! To be honest the night is kind of a blur because I was so in awe that this day had actually come. Even now, looking down at my ring as I type, listening to this song... I'm the happiest I've ever been. I can't wait to be his wife, and I'm excited I get to share this with all of you.

best weekend of my life

This was the happiest weekend of my life! I can't even put into words how full my heart has been. Sometimes I'll just randomly stop what I'm doing and shout, "I'm getting married!". And it's awesome. I promise to share more details soon, but I wanted to post a few photos that my sweet friend Kalli took for us. There's more to come, and a full proposal story soon!
