Why I Make

I'm really excited to share this new feature with you called Why I Make... I've always enjoyed hearing the why behind what people do, so I thought I'd share with you why I make ____________. I'm extremely analytical and often enjoy some introspective thinking. I do things so often, that I sometimes forget why I do what I do. I think it's important to remember the why behind what we find ourselves doing or thinking on a daily basis. After writing this first post, I find that this is a bit therapeutic on my end too and hopefully it'll inspire you to ask the question of why you do the things that you do.  So, without further ado. Why I make... MUSIC.

I have always had a love for music. My Dad has and continues to be extremely passionate about music. Growing up, music was something that him and his 6 siblings all shared a love for. So I think it first came from him; my lullaby was a Cat Steven's song^_^ My brother has also had a huge influence on me as well. He is so musically talented it's truly inspiring. He began playing trumpet and the keyboard at a young age and I guess it sort of sparked something inside of me. I never attempted to play an instrument; they just didn't really make sense to me, but I knew I liked to sing. My like soon turned into love and choir became my greatest outlet for my biggest passion, music. I continued singing all through middle and high school. I attended All State and multiple competitions and as I came to my senior year, I was convinced that I was going to be an opera singer. I loved singing classical pieces, and I'm not gonna lie, I was pretty good at it. God had another plan though, instead of going to New York and pursuing this dream I felt that I was supposed to go into a 9 month discipleship program called Master's Commission; this is really a whole other story in itself. Needless to say , I did not pursue my dream of becoming an opera singer, but that was fine by me because God gave me a new dream; to become a worship leader. Which, interestingly enough, I didn't even realize at the time was an actual job, ha! I did in fact decide to go to school to do just that though and in less than three months I will receive my Bachelor's degree in Music Ministry. I will have studied piano for three years, spent hundreds of hours being classically trained and having learned far more music theory than I ever thought existed, ha! All of this to say that I love music, it's my life and I love that.

Basically, I make music because it feeds a part of my soul that nothing else can. One song can bring a flood of memories back, it can make my heart ache, or bring a smile to my face. Music reminds me of people that I love, it speaks to me through lyrics and melodic lines and it allows me to convey a feeling that I couldn't otherwise. I love making music and I count myself so very blessed to be able to create something from nothing, does that make sense? You know how some people only have like a hundred songs on their laptop, or even a few hundred... I don't understand those people, haha! But seriously, I have over two thousand songs in my itunes library and that's only my digital collection. Music inspires me and motivates me to make my own. Ultimately my desire is to use my gift to direct people's attention to the one who ultimately gave me my gift. If I can do nothing else in my life than to bring God glory through making music, then I count myself lucky.
I've already shared with you my dislike for sharing my music, because I associate it with so many things in my life and it's very personal to me, but I have been getting better by sharing on Music Mondays... I really love making playlists though. I have a playlist for just about any situation in life... Road trip, crafting, brainstorming and dreaming, I had an awful day, pensive and alone with my thoughts, studying, or my favorite... it's morning let's be happy playlist; of course I have fancier titles for each, but you get the picture. Because of my love for music, I am motivated to make my own and hopefully one day I will be able to record one of my songs and share it with you lovely people. So there you have it; that is why I make music.

Productivity

This weekend was terribly productive and yet surprisingly relaxing. Saturday I had no plans so I just did a few things I wanted to get done and by a few, I kind of mean a lot.
Made ten new bows for the shop
Made some new curtains
Updated From the Armoire and added tons of new goodies!
Decorated my inspiration wall (post to come)
Went grocery shopping
Returned Rio (such a cute movie!)
Got my oil changed
Made two big batches of salsa
Organized my fabric shelving
Did two loads of laundry
Washed the dishes
Baked some patriotic cookies (in honor of Constitution Day)
Watched 4 episodes of Bones (now I'm caught up!)
Wrote a paper on the form and analysis of of Minuet composed by Bach

How was your weekend? Did you notice how some of my cookies are a bit "toasted"? Well, lets just say I'm not really a baker, hehe. Oh and did you see?! We're only 13 lovely followers away from a very special five-hundred-follower-giveaway! Ah! Happy Monday!

sister time with my sister

My sister came into town! She stayed for only two days, but it was so nice having her around^_^ She makes me happy. We were able to sneak away on my lunch break to my favorite little restaurant in downtown Waxahachie, called the Dove's Nest. It's only open from 11-2, so it's a rare joy when I'm able to eat there. They have thee best soup, which was just perfect for all these allergy symptoms I've been experiencing (womp womp). We also did a little vintage shopping and then I had to head back to work.

While I finished up my Night of Worship rehearsal Adrienne went to Target. She insisted on purchasing some Missoni; I warned her that there was nothing left, as I explained my attempt to purchase something the day of and eeeverything was gone. However, she managed to snag some really cute stuff that were hidden away in a go back pile. I too was able to find some gems. I got the prettiest heels and a pair of knee highs (be still my heart). And then we went home and watched Rio. We used to live there. Did you know that?? Well, now you do. That's all for now! Hope you have a wonderful weekend friends!

OH, before I forget, take a little gander to the right bar of the screen and see how many followers Pie N' the Sky has! That's right, only 15 from 500! I've decided that once we reach 500, we are going to have a really special giveaway!! Ah! I'm so excited and I can't wait to share it, but we must get to that lovely little number first. Here's hoping!

Fall Fashion

Fall seems to be slowly approaching and I am quite excited indeed! I rustled up a little list of some of my favorite fall trends that I am way excited for!

Who doesn't love the jegging?? They're insanely comfortable and completely versatile. They can be casual and comfy or classy and fancy. I just love how crisp and put together these girls look. I still have yet to find the perfect pair of black jeggings, but I am on the hunt. I would like to say however, that I believe jeggings should enhance the outfit and not draw attention from it, i.e. if you're wearing them as pants, please, for the love of all that is good, wear a long shirt. No one needs to see thaaat much of you. Am I right??

I love love boots. They are the epitome of fall fashion. I love how many different styles and colors there are, I love that they can be worn with jeans or dresses and I especially love that they keep my toes nice and warm. I currently really really want some fringe boots. I have my eye on a pair and I'm waiting for just the right time to purchase them, ya know, like when they're on sale. Aside from their generally high prices, boots are my fave.

Oh, the scarf. I love scarves for many reasons, one of which is their overall purpose, keeping my neck warm! As a singer, it's important to take care of my throat and scarves do a fine job of helping me do that. Aside from the actual functionality, they're just fun! I love really thick ones that billow out from my coat, or thin lightweight ones that truly serve no purpose but to enhance my outfit. Either way, scarves are pretty great.

Oh. My. Word. Tights. Who doesn't love tights?? Everyone does. They're pretty and warm and they allow me to wear dresses even when it's cold. They have pretty patterns and colors and they work with just about any outfit. I love tights. They may be my absolute most favorite Autumn trend. yes, yes they are.

Coats are just wonderful. They keep us warm AND they make us look cute! I have far too many coats in my closet, but I simply can't help myself. My favorites are brightly colored snow that always bring a bit of warmth to an otherwise very cold and grey day.

Well, there you have it my friends, my favorite Fall fashion trends. What are some of your favorite trends?? I love getting inspiration for my wardrobe!
