the coffee house

Blogging can be kind of tough sometimes in that at times it can sort of feel like you're having this one way conversation. I absolutely love when you all comment; it reminds of why I blog and encourages me that there are other girls out there who share my same thoughts or feel how I feel! So in short, thank you. I also struggle with how I can comment back to each of you. I don't want you to think that your words go unnoticed (I assure you, I read and treasure each note left for me), but I also don't know that if I write a comment back, that you will come back to read it. SO I've installed a new software that will allow me to reply to just your comment, and in doing so I believe you will get a message to make you aware of that comment. I love it! We can have like actual conversations people!

I've decided that as much I love to talk, I also really love to listen and so I'm introducing a new feature. I'm really excited about this because you all know so much about me and my life, and now I will get a chance to take a small peek into yours! I always meet up with friends to chat at starbucks, so I thought that we could meet up at a virtual coffee house today and make some new friends!! So, who's in?

Here are some questions that we can get started with!

1/ What did you order for our coffee house date? Tea? Coffee? A specialty drink?
2/ Where did you grow up?
3/ What is your dream job? Do you have it now or are you still working towards it?
4/ Cat or Dog?
5/ If you could visit anyone, anywhere, where would it be?
6/ Are you where you thought you'd be five years ago? Is that a good thing or bad thing?

I've written my answers below! Excited to read yours!!

1     Warm Caramel Apple Spice. It's like Fall in your mouth.
2     I grew up in Brazil/New Mexico. My parents got divorced when I was pretty young so I went back and forth  between the two. I loved living overseas, but there's nothing like the US:)
3     I don't know that there's an actual job title I'm chasing, but I'd love to find a job that allows me to express my creativity, something that can help develop personal growth, where I feel like I'm making a difference, and I feel passionate about - is that real? Though I'm in a bit of a transition period, I love where I'm at - I love who I'm becoming and the adventure I'm currently on.
4     I don't know why I put this, because I knew I wouldn't be able to choose! I'd probably have to say dog, if I absolutely had to! I love them both, as well as all other animals. I'm kind of obsessed. But I cannot wait to get my own dog!
5     I have so many loved ones all over the world, so this is a toughie! But at the present moment, I would really love to visit my friend Stephanie and meet the newest little man in her life, Jaxon! I love seeing photos of their newest addition to the family and I haven't seen her in years and years!
6     Not at all! haha, but really, I saw something totally different. This is probably a really good thing, because I never could've imagined I'd be where I'm at now. There's still some unknowns, but that's fun.

Okay, now it's your turn! Leave a comment with your answers and we'll chat!

  1. Ooh I'll play along!
    1. almond milk chai tea latte. being vegan means no dairy and while many places offer soy, i get super excited when i find a spot that has almond milk as an alternative. like the jump up and down kind of excited..
    2. I grew up in NJ! It's nothing like Jersey Shore would have you believe (though to be fair, this is all hearsay, as I've never watched an episode. swear.) and is the perfect mix of city, beach, and suburbia.
    3. Dream job is professional actress - which I am! While I feel accomplished in some areas, I've now got my sights set on TV and (more) voiceover work. Other endless dream is singer/songwriter, something I've slowly begun to share with others over this past year - I even got to sing on a track written by one of my biggest idols. Being a performer means a never ending list of goals.
    4. DOG! Specifically my own (Henry Elliot Raleigh Alexander) but also any dog ever. I stop in the middle of these busy nyc streets to greet any pup coming my way.
    5. Oh man. Hard one! I would honestly love to just go home and see my mom and my dog.
    6. Not by a long shot.. but that's the best thing possible. I was such a perfectionist and overachiever. Now I know that true happiness is within and being successful means being joyful :)
This was so fun! Your answers are great, I enjoyed reading them :) xo, http://kerrying-on.blogspot.com

    Hiya!
    1. I would definitely order something with chai in it. Maybe a pumpkin chai, or an iced chai. Yum.
    2. I grew up around Detroit, Michigan. It's so weird living somewhere different from where I grew up. I mean, we lived in multiple cities AROUND Detroit, never IN Detroit, but now that I'm living out by Lansing, Michigan, it's so.. different. Today I'm at my mama's visiting and reacquainting myself with my "hometown".
    3. I dream of making a living off of my crochetingggg. Nothing is better than the feeling of yarn & a hook in my hands.
    4. I prefer cats, but I have two dogs instead. My husband's whole family is allergic to cats, so dogs it is.
    5. I would probably visit a friend of mine who recently had a baby and is living out-of-state. I miss her dearly.
    6. I am definitely not where I thought I'd be in five years, and it's a bad thing. I've been really depressed this week about it and I'm attempting to take steps toward changing my life a bit so I can get closer to the person I thought I'd be / the person I want to be.

It sounds like a lot of fun traveling back and forth between countries to see your parents, in a strange way? I just had my mama growing up, so no traveling for me, though I assume both sides have pros and cons.

It's great that you not being where you thought you'd be is a good thing. I hope someday I get to that point - to be happy with things not going the way I planned.

This was a great idea for a post <3

I loooove chai tea lattes! & I give you props for being vegan. I've tried over and over, and continue to try to be vegan and I just never seem to get it right.
Your dog's name is so cute! And so long! What kind is he?

  5. 1. latte

  6. Eeee! I love stuff like this!!!

    1. I've been wanting to try a salted caramel mocha latte, so I would order that!
    2. I grew up in a small suburb of Chicago, IL! But Utah has been home in my heart since I was 13, and literally home for five years now!
    3. Growing up, I wanted to be an artist and that's been my dream job forever. I've also always wanted to work side-by-side with Jen! We've worked every job we've had together, however we're both under disability right now. Working on my arts and crafts, with Jen as my inspiration and assistant is something I do whenever I can and I LOVE IT! So, I may not have a job-job, but I am working on my passion and that's even better. :P
    4. Tied. I'm a cat person, but I love love love dogs. I would have both, if I could and we've been talking about one day getting a doberman! Such a sweet breed!
    5. Tokyo, Japan right now, with Jen and the pets, in a rented apartment so we could see the city life, the country life, go shopping, eat the food, etc. It's been a dream since we were young teenagers!
    6. I'm happily married, which is my ultimate dream come true and Jen and I are together 24/7, which is all I've hoped for. We have such sweet furry and feathery babies, I've got my little blog, my hobbies have stayed the same with more added on and I think I've come very far. We've lost a few loved ones, jobs, places, our car, etc. We went through bankruptcy. So there has been hard times, and if I could bring back the people and animals, I would. But outside of that, yes, my little life is absolutely perfect in my opinion! I couldn't have asked for a better future, minus the passing ons and the disabilities, which the latter are part of who we are and I can live with that!

  7. Thanks Leslie! We can chat about being vegan any day, happy to help! Henry is a Morkie (maltese/yorkie) who came to me through a wonderful rescue group :) I enjoyed reading your answers, too! I promise you that you are exactly where you're meant to be - even when it doesn't feel like it. Keep going! xo

  8. Thanks for the reply! Glad you dig almond milk! :) Henry came to me already named Henry and I gave him that name so he would know he was finally, truly, really home - last name and everything. Sounds corny.. but he is my baby! As for acting..I was on tour for a few years with a Broadway show and will be heard on National Geo TV very soon. Getting closer to the day when everyone will know my work! Fingers crossed ;) xo

  9. 1. Iced vanilla latte, my favorite!
    2. I grew up in Downey, CA- a city in Los Angeles county California. I love it there.
    3. My dream job has always been to be a stay at home mom and that's what I am! I think it's the best and most important job in the world!
    4. Dog! I have a shih tzu who is three named sweet Lou!
    5. My grandma in heaven. She died ten years ago. She never got to see me graduate get married or have kids and I wish so much that she was here.
    6. I always wanted to get married and have kids. I kind of thought it would take longer than it did but I got married at 23 and had my son at 25. I'm 26 now. I could not be happier about how things worked out. I love my life and God has blessed me beyond belief.

Chai is my usual go to;) I usually add a shot of vanilla, but pumpkin sounds amazing!
I just recently learned how to crochet! I'm more of a knitting girl myself.
Don't be too hard on yourself - I think we all go through times where we're displeased with where we're at in life, but that's just when we've got to switch gears, reprioritize and start changing. It's just a season of growth for you:)
It was fun traveling back and forth between the two, you're right. Tough not having two parents together, but I got blessed by being able to have 4 i guess, ha! There's pros and cons to every situation.

So much traveling for you! Sounds fun though:) My mom grew up in Chihuahua, so we have some family still in Mexico.
That sounds like a lovely dream job!
Love your answer for 6; achieving your dream is tons of work, but that's what makes it so worth it!

I've visited Utah once and I really enjoyed it:)
Have you been to Japan? My friend just recently moved there with her husband and I just love seeing all of her photos!
You sound like you have a very happy and full life; what more could one ask for? :) Thanks so much for sharing!

  13. No problem! Where in Utah did you visit? We've worked in two tourist spots, Halls Crossing on Lake Powell and Ruby's Inn in Bryce canyon. We've also visited Zion National Park and Antelope Island. All have a different "view" and are so fun! If you haven't visited them, and if you ever return to Utah, you should see at least one. :D We have the Hoodoo's, which are so mystical. The lake, which has the National Arches, etc.

When we worked on the lake, we took a few day trips. One was to see ancient settlements of the Navajo. Another was hiking up one of the Bridges National Park. So fun!

In Bryce Canyon, Jen and I went on a day trip into the Mossy Caves, which was right before work just to give you an example of how close we were to natures wonders.

    I love the outdoors!

  16. 1. it depends! if it's even the slightest bit cloudy, a white chocolate mocha. if the sun's out, it's a passion tea.
    2. i've lived in the same, southern california city my whole life. excited to one day move out of here. hopefully to new york!
    3. my dream job is teaching at a school for the deaf. especially kindergarten or first grade! that's my favorite age to work with. i'm working my way through school now, slowly but surely. kind of taking my time to learn about everything i want to! (sign language interpreting, photography..) not just focus on the core classes that i need. someday i won't have that flexibility anymore!
    4. dog! i've always liked them, but i bought my first puppy four years ago and i'm smitten on another level now.
    5. i think i'd visit my friends garrik and liz in italy! garrik was stationed there through the military a few years ago and now we only get to see the two of them once every couple years. plus.. it's italy. i mean, come on. haha
    6. five years ago i thought i'd be finishing college this year. and while other people are going to be graduating, and it would be easy to see this as a bad thing, i think it's good. i've learned a lot about myself these past few years, started a little photography business, made a lot of music, and realized that not everyone is on the "four year university" plan. i'm much happier this way, i think. :)
