COLLECTIONS : books

When I first changed career paths, I was really excited for several reasons. One of those reasons was the extra time I would have to read books! Reading is a favorite past time of mine and something I truly enjoy. Maybe it's the nerdy side of me that just loves to learn, but I love a good book! I have been so fortunate to have read 5 books in the last three months, and I thought I'd share a little review of each!

The Mockingjay - I'm pretty sure everyone (and their mother) has read this trilogy, but in case you haven't... this book is wonderful! I'm a huge fan of The Hunger Games; so much so that I couldn't bring myself to finish it! I tend to do this with most books, I'll eat them up and read through it all in a day, and once I get to the last chapter it hits me - it's about to be over. I hate the thought of letting go of these characters (I get attached easily), that it's hard for me to actually finish the books I love so dearly. I actually read through all three books last Summer, but didn't finish this final one until last month. I'm glad I did.

The Screwtape Letters - I love C.S. Lewis and this book was no exception. His work is always so profound and thought provoking. I often found myself pausing myself at each page and just soaking in the overwhelming truth of his words. I love hearing simple truths because they always tend to get lost in the chaos of each day - it's good to be reminded of them.

The Snow Child - This book is pure magic. The story is sad, but honest and beautiful. It reminded me of real life, not like a make believe world with unthinkable circumstances, but something you'd want to hear your grandmother tell you. I loved this book and would suggest it to anyone and everyone with a heartbeat!

Matched - I don't know about you, but I'm a sucker for a good teen fiction. This book is a little silly, but it's a fun read and obviously very dramatic.

The Fault in Our Stars - I really enjoyed this sad, but mostly hilarious book. The humor is filled with dark sarcasm, but rightfully so. I had never read anything like it and I must admit I couldn't help but cry. It's beautiful because it's so honest; and it makes the reader feel human.

I'm currently reading...

I always love hearing suggestions so I hope you enjoyed this post. So what's your favorite book? I'd love to hear what you have on your shelf!

  1. Ooh I love finding new books to read! :) My sister got the Divergent books for Christmas, so once she's done reading those I'll probably borrow them from her.

Every month I post about what books I read, so here is the link if you'd like to check that out: http://www.hollyknitlightly.com/search/label/monthly%20update

  2. Loved THG trilogy, I've been saying I'm going to read The Uglies for well over a year now, but never got around to doing so. I've seen so much about John Green's novels as well, I'd like to get into his writing, since everyone raves about him!
    Lovely blog!

  3. I'm about to start Where'd You Go Bernadette, how is it? I also saw a trailer for the movie adaptation of Beautiful Creatures so I decided to throw a paranormal teen romance novel on my nook for a quick read. Awesome post, I love getting recs from blogs I love to read!

I just LOVE to read...thank you for this post! Now The Snow Child and The Fault In Our Stars are on my to-read list. I typically like darker novels...Gillian Flynn is my fave. She wrote Gone Girl, which is really popular, but her first two novels are my fave (Dark Places, Sharp Objects). I also loved The Road (that book made me SOB!) and No Country for Old Men.
