putting your best face forward

I'm a firm believer in caring for your body , as we only have one for our whole life! Even more so, we should care for our faces. I've compiled a little list of things I like to do to keep my face feeling fresh and a few of my most favorite products!

>> wash your face every morning and every night, even just with a gentle cleanser, get your makeup
off or your pores will get clogged (eww)
>> wash with warm water to help open up those pores! lots of pore talk.
>> moisturize moisturize moisturize!
>> use a moisturizer with spf
>> use a blemish treatment as a preventative and not just to treat

This product is great for prepping your skin after it's been washed. It really helps to brighten my skin and make it feel more firm. I put this on before my moisturizer.

This is a new favorite; it has helped even out my skin tone and actually helped clear it up as well. I love it because it provides a little color like a foundation would but is not heavy like most other liquid foundations, because it's a tinited moisturizer. My face also appreciates that it has spf.

These are essentials for sure. This moisturizer is so light but really does the job. As I tend to have combination/dry skin, I think it's perfect.
I use a light coat of the treatment every night before I go to bed. It really keeps the blemishes away!

The area under my eyes is always a source of grief for me. Try as I may, I can't always get enough sleep as I should, so moisturizing around my eye area, really helps to brighten them and not make me look so sweepy. My eyes are appreciative.

These are both new favorites. My skin tends to be pretty sensitive, so picking a face wash is kind of a bear, but when I came across this one, I was just smitten! It's gentle and effective. I've not had any blemishes and my skin tone has evened out. The price makes me happy too!
This mud mask is perfect. It smells yummy and makes my skin feel refreshed and wonderful!

While I don't use these daily, they are definitely worth mentioning. The night treatment is a bit on the pricier side, but it is worth every penny, I assure you!

Hope this was helpful sweet friends! I always love recommendations too, so if you have a favorite product, don't hold out on me! Do share!!

seven is the perfect number

Today the Mr. and I will have been together officially for seven years. We were friends before then, but he asked me to be his girlfriend today, seven years ago, after a Rocket Summer concert. It was pretty great.

I'm really happy that I'm his lady and he remains to be my mr, but more than that I am so happy we're still best friends. It amazes me that after seven years and after we've changed SO much, we've managed to continue to move in the same direction together. This isn't a sappy post about love, but merely a small one of gratitude. I am so very grateful he is in my life and I make it a point everyday to tell him how much he means to me, and visa versa. He is sweet and kind to me; and I want for nothing. I am so lucky and most days he is too. Happy we found eachother!

Now, here are seven photos of our seven years, but not so much of the early ones... mostly because we weren't digital back then, but also mostly because the interweb doesn't need to see 15 year old Melisa (eeep!)

a day at the opera

The Mr gifted me with tickets to the opera for valentine's day and we got to go this last weekend! It was all I could've hoped for! Little known fact, for a significant portion of my life, I longed to be an opera singer. I loved singing classically and wanted nothing more than to devote my life to the stage. As I continued to grow, I realized that I was meant to go in a different direction in my singing career. I'm so happy with where I'm at now, but a piece of my heart will always belong to the opera. This day meant so much to me.

We saw The Marriage of Figaro and it was just lovely! The sets were beautiful, the story was funny, and the singing... I can't even. It was perfect and I just had to share. If you haven't been before, you should!

my spartan

Last weekend the Mr took part in the annual Spartan Race in Austin. It was cray cray, y'all, but he did so so good!! I couldn't have been more proud. Though, I will admit, I was kind of nervous at first when I got there and saw all of the obstacles... he jumped over fire! It was his first time participating and he finished in the top 15%... he's so cool.

What I loved even more, was the fact that this happened the same week of Renegade! So we were both able to drive to Austin together and fulfill our own little dreams! My heart was full and I feel so lucky to be with someone who strives towards his dreams, lives for adventure and likes to have me by his side (awwww).

Hope you've enjoyed your Memorial weekend! loves! Melisa.

a word of encouragement

Yes, we are called to excellence, but perfection is unattainable. The sooner we can grasp that, the more life we will gain from our days. I spent more than a few years trying and searching for "my place". It was rarely at the front of the line, leading triumphantly, and fortunately enough it wasn't in the back with those straggling along just trying to get by, I was (and for the most part still am) a happy medium between the two. I wanted to be seen in the eyes of my peers as one who had it all "together". Needless to say it was a facade that I would never live up to. I always envisioned a better version of myself out there in the world and I wanted so desperately to be her.

Looking back on who I once was and who I am today, I struggle with the thought that though I have grown, matured, and ultimately become different, I am and forever will be me. Though one may say I am a new and improved version of my awkward self, I like to think that this girl I am today was in there all along, I just didn't know then what I know now. My confidence stems from lessons learned, individuals who have spoken life into me, and circumstances that only time could have brought to me. You see, I was always who I am today, I just didn't know it then.

I take great joy in this. In fact I find that it gives me a courage to face the days to come with strength and confidence, knowing that deep within me lies a much wiser me, one who has lost and won, who has seen great victories and terrible losses, who has overcome and been beaten, who has stood and has fallen, who knows far beyond what I know now... that girl is me. She is who I wish I could be today, but who gives me hope in tomorrow, knowing that one day I will be her in my entirety.

We spend our whole lives striving to be the best versions of ourselves, when indeed we are the exact versions we were created to be. Indeed we are our best. God did not create us as less than His best. Life is merely our journey to become who we once were. Through life, mistakes, hardships, temptations, losses, sickness, heartaches and beyond, we have furthered ourselves from our once perfect selves and have thus begun the race to become that which was lost. The beautiful thing is that Jesus fills that gap for us. That which was lost is found, and though we remain imperfect, we gain something far greater, a life with God. I am fatally flawed, but I worship one who is perfect in all ways. There I said it. I know this post is a little heavy and especially if your beliefs don't line up with mine, but whether you believe in God or not, the truth is this; you are important and you matter. You are not perfect, but gosh you are pretty great. You are loved and you are not alone. You can do more than you think you can and one day you will look back on today and wonder why you worried so much. One day you will look and see that you are indeed much wiser, much further, and much stronger than you ever thought you'd be. And what a glorious day that will be.

bits+pieces

I just love staying at Adrienne's home. It's filled with so many unique and special pieces. I loved being able to spend time with her this past weekend; staying up late chatting is always fun with your sister! Do you all enjoy your sister time as much as I do?? I really wish we lived in the same city so we could see eachother more oft. However, the time between only makes our time together that much sweeter! Hope you have a lovely start to your week this Monday!
